Hi all, a question as follows for PTS,
How to differentiate the reasons behind of choosing Hangzhou as the observing site for the following two group people?
1. Prof. Pasachoff's group
2. Leung Kar ...
Eric,
You misunderstood my points.
Firstly Ho Cham and I had decided to go to Hangzhou very early.
Our plan : If the sky is clear there, then we'll stay there and observe. If it is overcast, we'll hire a car and go north (towards Huzhou)or East (towards Jiaxing) until we find a location with "observable" condition.
However, after getting the return tickets for the 15:42 train on July 22 (this is a serious mistake to get the return ticket on the eclipse day, despite the fact that I had valid reasons to do so), we felt it impossible to stick to our plan because we may not be able to return to Hangzhou on time. And we had apparently decided to just stay in Hangzhou and let mother nature decide.
However, upon learning of Pasachoff's location, we felt we can still catch the return train, even taking into account traffic congestions. At least, unlike our original plan of simply driving north to "who knows where", we now have a definite destination/location. Surely, as you said, Pasachoff's status has some influence on our decision. On the otherhand, if the sky was clear when we arrived at Hangzhou, we might have just stay there without going further north. As all we know by now the sky was not promising at all when we arrived in Hangzhou at ~10:30 on July 21.
Another point we feel we need to improve (within HKAS) is communication. I have no idea that so many groups (that is HKAS groups) are going to Hangzhou until these "reports" appear in this forum. All I know are a few groups going to "Hoining" via Hnagzhou (that include Chan Yuk Lun, Ng Chun Hao, etc). Had we know Kar Ming, Philip and Magazines are all there, we may have different arrangements.
