[size=13.3333px]CI Aql monitoring needed to support HST observations

[size=13.3333px]Dr. Edward Sion (Villanova University) has requested AAVSO
[size=13.3333px]observers' assistance in monitoring the recurrent nova CI Aql in
[size=13.3333px]support of observations with the Hubble Space Telescope Cosmic
[size=13.3333px]Origins Spectrograph scheduled for October 31 - November 2, 2016,
[size=13.3333px]and November 3 - November 5, 2016. These observations are part of
[size=13.3333px]a study on short orbital period recurrent novae as Supernovae
[size=13.3333px]Type Ia progenitors.

[size=13.3333px]It is essential to know 24 hours prior to the HST COS observations
[size=13.3333px]that CI Aql is not in outburst, in order to protect the
[size=13.3333px]instrumentation. Observers are asked to keep an eye on CI Aql with
[size=13.3333px]nightly snapshot images (V preferred) from now until November 12,
[size=13.3333px]and to report their observations promptly. It will be especially
[size=13.3333px]important to know the brightness of CI Aql each night for October
[size=13.3333px]28 through November 7 UT. Visual observations are welcome.

[size=13.3333px]CI Aql (Nova Aql 1917) has had recurrent outbursts in 1941 and
[size=13.3333px]2000, brightening to V~8.5. At minimum it is V~16-16.5 or fainter.

[size=13.3333px]Coordinates (2000.0): R.A. 18 52 03.57  Dec.  -01 28 39.4

[size=13.3333px]Charts with a comparison star sequence for CI Aql may be created
[size=13.3333px]using the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP, [size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/vsp[size=13.3333px]).
[size=13.3333px]Observers need to be aware that the field of view is complicated
[size=13.3333px]by some comparison stars appearing as close doubles.

[size=13.3333px]Please submit observations to the AAVSO International Database
[size=13.3333px]using the name CI AQL.

[size=13.3333px]This campaign is being followed on the AAVSO Observing Campaigns
[size=13.3333px]webpage ([size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/observing-campaigns[size=13.3333px]). A thread has
[size=13.3333px]been created on the Campaigns and Observation Reports forum at
[size=13.3333px]([size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/content/ci-aql-observing-campaign[size=13.3333px]).
