How to change the the mpeg file to avi file

I just bought the Philips SPC900NC webcam. However, I can only used the webcam to record mpeg video file. That makes me unable to use the Registax, which only supports avi  video files to stack frames. Can anybody tell me how i can change the mpeg file to avi file?

MPEG is lossy, so even if you change it back to AVI, you lost a lot of information.

Suggest you to find some other recording software which can store in AVI directly.
