Dear all,
As some of you may have already known, there will be HK's 1st astro park in Sai Kung. The Space Museum is considering to erect concrete piers with stainless steel top plates for EQ mounts in the astro park.
I have today received the response from the Curator as to interactions on how to give input to Space Museum on the design/modification of the proposed top plates :-
"Dear Raymond,
Thank you very much for your kind assistance in conducting the survey and your suggestions.
While we welcome amateurs to send in their mount drawings, we consider it may be more convenient for them to take a look at the drawing of our adapter plate to see if it fits with their mounts. Our prototype adapter plate will be placed in our resource centre so they can come over to our museum to test it.
So, we would like to suggest 3 ways for checking the plate:
1. We could create a webpage to provide the detailed drawings of our adapter plate in the future. Users can then check on the webpage to see whether their mounts fit with our adapter plate. They could then either provide their feedbacks in the public astronomy forums or send the comments to the Space Museum email: [email protected]
2. Users could bring their mounts to the Space Museum resource centre for testing. Our resource centre opening hours can be found at: http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum ... rceCentre/c_rc.htm. If they like to see the plate at time other than the opening hours of the resource centre, they may contact Ms. Lee at 27342744 to check whether alternative arrangement is possible.
3. Users could email the drawings of their mounts to us at [email protected] for checking.
You may inform the amateurs in the forums of the above arrangement. We would send you the link once the webpage is created. If necessary, please feel free to post the drawings and photos of the adapter plate in our webpage to the forums.

Subject: Re: Survey on mounts brought out by HK amateurs for stargazing
Dear Mr. Chan Ki-hung,
I have just located your name card and re-send this e-mail to you.
Pls confirm the arrangements for amateurs to bring their mounts to you, and/or whether your staff can accept drawings/sketch/photo of the mount base when designing the top plate.

Dear Mr. Chan Ki Hung, Curator,
Space Museum
I refer to the recent meeting on 06-06-2008 when we discussed the types of mounts which would be brought out by HK amateurs for stargazing.
I have conducted an informal survey by posting in 3 HK astro forums
http://forum-test.hkas.org.hk/vi ... &extra=page%3D1
http://www.hkastroforum.net/view ... 90d5b8e8b74d9b4ef15
http://astrohome.net/viewthread.php?tid=1314&extra=page%3D1
Not an exhaustive survey, since schools are not included.
A total of about 64 responses were received and the short summary of the survey is as follows :-
Brand------------No of response----------Percentage
Tak---------------26----------------------40.63%
Vixen-------------16----------------------25.00%
Celestron----------5------------------------7.81%
Mizar---------------5------------------------7.81%
Others-------------5------------------------7.81%
Meade--------------4------------------------6.25%
Altas/Skywater----3------------------------4.69%
Total response----64----------------------100.00%
A detailed breakdown of the models in each brand can be seen here :-

You have mentioned that amateurs may bring their own mounts to Space Museum, so that you may sort out how the adapters on the concrete plate could be designed.
Could your certain staffs' names and contact info (email, pager, phone etc) be released to these 3 forums, so that the amateurs could contact your staffs for appointments to bring over their mounts ?
Besides delivering the actual mounts, would it be possible for the amateurs to send in through emails :-
1. a detailed sketch of the dimension of the base of the mount and the tripod top-plate, like the pdf file as attached (for EM200); and
2. a jpeg photo of the base of the mount for your reference, like the jpeg file for base of EM200 as attached.
If you require any further information/attachment, please let me know, so that I may inform the amateurs via the astro forums.
