[size=13.3333px]AAVSO Alert Notice 567

[size=13.3333px]February 10, 2017

[size=13.3333px]IM Nor monitoring requested for HST COS observations

[size=13.3333px]Dr. Ed Sion (Villanova University) and colleagues have requested
[size=13.3333px]AAVSO observers' assistance in monitoring the symbiotic-type
[size=13.3333px]recurrent nova IM Nor in support of observations with the Hubble
[size=13.3333px]Space Telescope Cosmic Origins Spectrograph scheduled for 2017
[size=13.3333px]February 13 - 17 UT.

[size=13.3333px]These observations are part of a study on short orbital period
[size=13.3333px]recurrent novae as Supernovae Type Ia progenitors.

[size=13.3333px]It is essential to know 24 hours prior to the HST COS observations
[size=13.3333px]that IM Nor is not in outburst, in order to protect the
[size=13.3333px]instrumentation. Also, photometry is needed throughout the HST
[size=13.3333px]window to insure knowledge of the brightness of the system.

[size=13.3333px]Observers are asked to monitor IM Nor with nightly snapshot images
[size=13.3333px](V preferred) from now through February 20, and to report their
[size=13.3333px]observations promptly. It will be especially important to know the
[size=13.3333px]brightness of IM Nor each night through February 17 UT.

[size=13.3333px]The AAVSO comparison star sequence for IM Nor has been extended so
[size=13.3333px]that IM Nor itself, which is V ~ 18.5 at minimum, can be imaged
[size=13.3333px]without saturating the faintest comparison stars. Stacking may be
[size=13.3333px]necessary to visualize IM Nor. Visual observations, if feasible,
[size=13.3333px]are welcome.

[size=13.3333px]In its original outburst, IM Nor (Nova Nor 1920) reached V ~ 8.5,
[size=13.3333px]as it did in 2002, the year of its only recurrent outburst observed
[size=13.3333px]to date.

[size=13.3333px]Coordinates for IM Nor: 15 39 26.42 -52 19 17.9   (2000.0)

[size=13.3333px]Charts: Charts with a comparison star sequence for IM Nor may be
[size=13.3333px]created using the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP) at
[size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/vsp[size=13.3333px].

[size=13.3333px]Please submit observations promptly to the AAVSO International
[size=13.3333px]Database using the name IM NOR. If you see IM Nor brightening,
[size=13.3333px]contact AAVSO Headquarters immediately.

[size=13.3333px]This campaign is being monitored on the AAVSO Observing Campaigns
[size=13.3333px]webpage at [size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/observing-campaigns[size=13.3333px] and is being
[size=13.3333px]followed on the Campaigns and Observation Reports Forum at
[size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/content/im-nor-observing-campaign[size=13.3333px].
