[size=13.3333px]AAVSO Special Notice #427

[size=13.3333px]January 23, 2017

[size=13.3333px]Please continue YZ Cnc coverage for Chandra TOO observations

[size=13.3333px]The observing campaign is continuing for the SU UMa-type dwarf nova
[size=13.3333px]YZ Cnc. In AAVSO Alert Notice 565, Dr. Christian Knigge (University
[size=13.3333px]of Southampton) and colleagues requested AAVSO coverage in support
[size=13.3333px]of Chandra X-ray observations to be carried out via a Target of
[size=13.3333px]Opportunity (TOO) triggering when the system was in a suitable
[size=13.3333px]outburst.

[size=13.3333px]Observers have been providing excellent coverage of YZ Cnc - very
[size=13.3333px]much appreciated by Dr. Knigge and colleagues - but unfortunately,
[size=13.3333px]for logistical reasons, Dr. Knigge was not able to trigger during
[size=13.3333px]the recent series of outbursts and superoutburst.

[size=13.3333px]Thus, it is essential to keep up the dense coverage of YZ Cnc that
[size=13.3333px]observers were providing over the past month. Please continue
[size=13.3333px]observing YZ Cnc closely (one to a few times, widely spaced, per
[size=13.3333px]night) until further notice, possibly through the end of the
[size=13.3333px]observing season. Your observations will be used to decide when to
[size=13.3333px]trigger the TOO observations, so they are crucial.

[size=13.3333px]YZ Cnc has normal outbursts about every 7-10 days, and
[size=13.3333px]superoutbursts about every 100-110 days. The astronomers are
[size=13.3333px]planning to use a superoutburst to trigger the TOO observations.

[size=13.3333px]Observers will be informed when the Chandra observations have been
[size=13.3333px]carried out and the campaign ends. Visual and V or CV band
[size=13.3333px]observations are requested; other bands are welcome but are not
[size=13.3333px]essential. Please report your observations to the AAVSO via WebObs
[size=13.3333px]as soon after you make them as possible, especially if you see YZ
[size=13.3333px]Cnc at visual magnitude 13.8 or brighter. Typical normal outbursts
[size=13.3333px]reach visual magnitude ~12.0, and superoutbursts ~11.0-11.3. In
[size=13.3333px]recent years at minimum YZ Cnc has been ~14.6-14.8.

[size=13.3333px]Coordinates (2000.0):  R.A. 08 10 56.65   Dec. +28 08 33.2

[size=13.3333px]Charts: Charts with a comparison star sequence for YZ Cnc may be
[size=13.3333px]created using the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP) at
[size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/vsp[size=13.3333px].

[size=13.3333px]Please submit observations to the AAVSO International Database
[size=13.3333px]using the name YZ CNC.

[size=13.3333px]This campaign is being monitored on the AAVSO Observing Campaigns
[size=13.3333px]webpage at [size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/observing-campaigns[size=13.3333px] and is being
[size=13.3333px]followed on the Campaigns and Observation Reports Forum at
[size=13.3333px]https://www.aavso.org/content/yz-cnc-observing-campaign[size=13.3333px].
