I was taking images of Venus a while ago and I found that a green filter actually improves the image.

The first image was taken with higher gain so that I can use faster shutter speed in the hope to freeze the seeing, but the result was no good.

The second image was taken with a green filter, the shutter speed was (much) longer but the resultant image was better.

Both raw videos were uploaded for immediate comparison.  I derived this technique when doing white light solar imaging, and it works on planets as well.

Green filter are known to beat poor seeing, as evidenced by the high resolution solar granulation images which are all taken through G-band filters (such as the Baader Continuum filter).
However, short exposure may not improve image quality as in bad seeing situations, you cannot get a good iamge, as in:

However, if the seeing is not that poor, we can still "catch" the good moments by video techniques.  That is the idea behind our developing the video astronomy more than 15 years ago.
