About astrophotography

I would like to ask why people can capture M42 very closely and details by 80/600 telescope??
How can they do it??
Can anybody tell me about the theory??

M42 is pretty big and thus it does not require long focal length, the magic is a good sky plus good tracking, image stacking is also necessary.
