The waning gibbous Moon ruins the northern-hemisphere Quadrantid maximum on January 3, due around 19h UT, though a possible short-lived, quite strong, peak from the shower may happen instead sometime between roughly 12h to 16h UT on January 3 (see the diagram on HMO p. 129). Recent video data suggests too that the Quadrantids may be active, but only weakly, for longer than visual estimates have inferred, perhaps from approximately December 28 to January 12.
