I have tried the ETX 90, it is very handy. According to the manual, the difference in tube weight is 6.9-3.5 = 3.4 kg. In stargazing extra 3.4 kg is not much.
If you do not have to carry it a long way to the observing site, the bigger is the better. If you have to travel with it on public transportation, you have to think again. You have to add the weight of the eyepieces and other gadgets.
The ETXs are good for visual observaing and lunar, solar & planetary imaging. If you want to start imaging starfield or DSOs (Deep Sky Objects), you need an equatorial mount.
