The basic requirement is a camera with manual mode. If you are shooting with wide to normal focal length (~50mm equivalent focal length), you can even shoot by hand holding the camera and shoot at relatively fast shutter speed (with full open aperture) even in the total eclipse phase. If you want longer exposure e.g. longer than 1/8 sec or with longer focal length, you will need a tripod.
If you are shooting with relatively long focal length e.g. 200 mm and beyond and longer exposure to record the faint outer corona, then you need a tracking mount.
If you plan to record the partial phase, then you will need a solar filter. The simplest one is the Baader Planetarium Solar Skreen. You can just cut a piece slightly larger than your lens opening and tape it to the lens with ordinary adhesive tape. You can also make a holder easily with thick paper or thin plastic sheet.
You can use either digital or film cameras.
