I am considering to get the USB or firewire version.
The vendour says that the USB version gets power from the USB cable also but I have doubt as 12V is required, USB will not provide 12V. Daniel,
I have checked the USB version.It uses just 5 Volt for operation.However, the current requirement is 500 mA.I believe this is too much for the USB of notebooks.
5 volt and 500 mA means 2.5 watts, which is about the same as the firewire version of 12 volt, 200 mA.
PTS DFK does have built in IR block.
Lowered price for imageingsource camera
Hi, I am not sure I should disclose this:I get a 5% discount off the $6960 price of the 41AF02.AS.I have not yet placed my order.Maybe Oldfield can advise if it is worthwhile to own one as I already have the Stellacam3 (640X480, NTSC), and a PAL Mallincam.Both are very sensitive for low-light level.I can get down to 16th magnitude on the Hokoon 0.5 m telescope (f/8) on clear nights.These are mainly for occultation work.
Then I have a 2k by 2k by 15 fps Imperx.This is mainly for bright objects and comes with a relatively large CCD (about 15 mm by 15 mm). Exposure can be from 10 micro second to 10 seconds.I was able to record some nebulosity of the Pleaides with 10 s exposure.
The Imagingsource camera is attractive for it removal of the IR cutoff filter and 60-min exposure time.However, like my Imperx, it is not cooled (while both the stellacam3 and the Mallincam are cooled)
PTS I guess you better check the sampling with your primary instruments.

Finally, which camera to choose depends on your primary application, for me, I've a 31AF03.AS for narrow band solar imaging, a DBK 21AF04.AS for planets. 我都正打算買部 (DBK 21AF04.AS 彩色 640x480) for planet, 不過唔知應該買 IR Block or No IR Block? 可唔可以教下我? 多謝!%32@ 個人認為 DBK (無 IR block) 好過 DFK (有 IR block), 因為似乎除左映火星之外, 都無需要用 IR block 各有各好. :-) 若所影的行星或月球的高度低於70度,大氣色差的情況會令到紅外線移位,令到影像有殘影。DFK有一好處就是若沒有帶IR filter,都唔怕。
